The geocentric conjunction between the Moon and the sun will be at the end of the lunar month on Tuesday  March 21 at 18:23 local time.

In Islamic cities: The Moon set before sunset.

For the Arab and Islamic countries, the moon will set before sunset on Tuesday 2023 in most of the Arab and Islamic world, in addition to that most of these countries  the sunset before the conjunction, and therefore it is impossible to see the crescent in all cases, as shown by the map of the moon’s lag time in the world on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 ( fig 2).

Possibility of Moon crescent visibility.

The visibility of Shawwal crescent, will be possible after the sunset on Tuesday  , March 22, 2023 in the world, from 08:06 local time. The crescent will be visible for the first time, from the west of the pacific., then successively to the West, as shown on the map below (Fig. 3)

conclusion

The observing process moon crescent of Ramadan will take place after sunset on Tuesday, March 21, 2123, corresponding to Sha’ban 29, 1444 AH, in many Arab and Islamic countries, such as Tunisia. The conjunction between the sun and the moon (the new moon) will occur on the evening of Tuesday, March 21, 2023, a few minutes before sunset, at 18:23, according to Tunisian time. for the Arab and Islamic countries, the moonset before sunset on Tuesday 2023 in most parts of the Arab and Islamic world, in addition to the fact that most of these countries the sunset before the conjunction, which results the impossibility of seeing the crescent in all cases and by all optical aid . 

As for the rest of the world, the crescent cannot be seen after sunset on Tuesday, because the moon will be very close to the sun and the horizon, and thus it does not meet the conditions for the possibility of seeing the crescent, despite its lag time is some minutes. The moon's lag time is the period of time that the crescent remains above the western horizon after sunset, i.e. the period between sunset and moonset. 

the moon crescent of ramadan will be seen on Wednesday, March 22, in most parts of the world, starting at eight o’clock in the morning and 6 minutes according to local time (Tunisia), starting from the far west of the Pacific Ocean, and then successively towards the west. As the crescent will be visible to the naked eye in all countries of the Arab and Islamic world, similar to the Tunisian country.

lag:  The moon's lag time is the period of time that the crescent remains above the western horizon after sunset, i.e. the period between sunset and moonset. 

Age Lune: The period between the conjunction and the sunset.

HL: Moon topocentric elevation (if the moon sets before the sun, the value will compensated by the symbol "*** ***").

DAZ: The difference between the sun’s azimuth and the moon’s azimuth, at sunset.

ARCL: Geocentric elongation between the sun and the moon.

W: The illuminated percentage of the moon's surface.

Indication : The criteria used to predict the visibility of the lunar crescent, are the Istanbul criteria (1978-2016).

The crescent Moon is visible after sunset, if the following conditions (criteria) are true.

  • The geocentric conjunction occurs before sunset.
  • HL> 5 ° at sunset.
  • ARCL> 8 °, at sunset.
