Arab Meteorological day

The National Institute of Meteorology, like other meteorological facilities in the Arab countries, celebrates the Arab Meteorological Day corresponding to September 15th, 2019 under the slogan of « meteorology and the preservation of lives and property », pursuant to the decision issued by the Arab Cabinet in charge of meteorology in its second session held in Cairo on April 26th, 2018 and In which he calls to celebrate the Arab Meteorological Day on September 15 of each year.

And due to the climatic changes witnessed by the world, including the Arab region and the Tunisian country, especially due to the increase in the frequency of extreme weather conditions, such as the occurrence of exceptional amounts of rain in a short time, heat waves, cold and strong winds, which cause material and human losses, The National Institute of Meteorology is working within the framework of the implementation of its strategic plan 2015-2020 to develop its human and technical capabilities through the adoption of modern technologies in the field of monitoring weather elements and forecasting weather and climate to provide the best and most accurate information for the benefit of different sectors and contribute to reducing the impacts of climate change Mentioned.

In this context, the Institute during the year 2019 acquired and focused a high-performance computer that will allow the operation of numerical models with high geographical accuracy and the processing of an important amount of data to improve the accuracy of expectations issued by the Institute in the form of daily bulletins or warning notices in exceptional cases. The Institute, in partnership with the National Bureau of Civil Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture, is also establishing the Air Vigilance Map project, which aims mainly for early warning of dangerous weather phenomena, as well as providing advice and procedures necessary to counter them and reduce their risks and simplifying the weather information to the public, the media, and official bodies through the use of the color spectrum to determine the severity of each phenomenon Aerial and required alertness and threatened areas.
